PERF will be hosting its Broadband Issues and the Future of Public Safety Communications: An Executive View on Friday, March 19, 2010 in Washington, D.C. This summit will examine the many types of information and communication technologies that public safety agencies are already deploying or will be deploying in coming years.
While the issues associated with advancing communications are complicated, we will be using real-world public safety experiences and examples to demonstrate the importance of reliable access to communications technologies and to capture the imagination of the audience regarding future possibilities. We will hear from police and fire chiefs and others who have played key roles in recent major events.
There is urgency to this meeting. As you may know, the issue of public safety access to the radio spectrum needed to support communications is currently before Congress and federal regulators. This meeting will provide a forum for discussing the decisions that are being made regarding public safety access to radio spectrum.
